For this post I decided to keep it close to home and interview my older…
Blogger “Down for Maintenance”
Recently, a friend of mine asked me why I wanted to move my blog from its previous home at kendall.blogspot.com to its new home at kendallschoenrock.com. At the time, I struggled for a good answer. I guess I just wanted to play with WordPress. It became painfully clear to me today why I enjoy the additional control of hosting my blog. Google’s Blogger service, blogspot, is currently down for maintenance. Although they say this planned, it just goes to show that when you’re reliant upon a free service, you’re also at their mercy.
This isn’t a huge deal to me. I no longer have any interest in using my blogger account and this isn’t the primary reason for the switch, but it’s just another example of how sometimes the big boys can take down a service whenever they want. I understand that services like this need to be worked on, but the primary difference I see is that I have to do it on their terms, not mine.
Even if they were up, I still like the control and added features of WordPress and don’t think that I would have much motivation to continue to post on my blogspot account.
1 hour from 2-3pm PDT? It’s 6:30pm PDT and it looks like all of blogger and blogspot are STILL down.
And for http://www.blogspot.com I get:
Internal Server Error
Error 500
